Welcome to the Chupaqueso.com FAQ, where we attempt to answer questions before they’ve been asked.
Q: What’s a chupaqueso?
A: It’s a cheese crisp folded around melted cheese. It’s also the name of a fictional snack that appears in Schlock Mercenary. It’s mentioned in this strip, which also has a footnote for the recipe.
Q: Why a website?
A: Because lots of people like chupaquesos, and we get asked about them a lot. But a better answer might be “why NOT a website?” Our plan for world domination runs as follows:
- Fry lots of cheese, and write about what happens.
- ???
- Profit!
Q: What does “chupaqueso” mean? It sounds like Spanish.
A: It is spanish. It means “suck cheese.” Or maybe “cheese-suck.” The word was created as a spoof on Taco Bell’s “gordita” and “chalupa” menu items. And hey, at least OUR word is laden with actual MEANING.
Q: You keep saying “we”
A: Howard Tayler created the chupaqueso. Jay Maynard improved the recipe. Together they’ve cooked it at conventions, and individually they’ve each got numerous variations on the original recipe.
Q: And now you’re saying “they.”
A: That’s it. We’re done.
(Well, no, we’re not. If you’ve got additional questions, post them as comments to this entry. We’ll incorporate them into the FAQ.)
