WordPress 2.0 upgrade in progress

Posted January 19th, 2006 at 12:25 pm by Jay Maynard

I’m about to start upgrading the site to WordPress 2.0. Anything you post or comment between now and the time the upgrade is done may disappear. You Have Been Warned.

The site theme will also change, mainly to get rid of a layout bug that seems to mainly affect Safari. Since I use Safari, that bug obviously has to go.

Update: Upgrade complete. Have fun.

it’s unlikely that these comments will disappear. I would like to suggest, however, that you turn off the “pretty” or “ajax” story entry box when you finish the upgrade.
it’s….not pretty - especially when you add links. just…trust me.

Oh? Where is that? Is it a part of the theme, or part of the overall site?

it’s in the admin console, when you enter new stories. it got *really* frustrating on my site. turned it off within a week.

Meh. I use it and don’t mind. I do most of my data entry using the Firefox side-bar widget. Now THAT’s cool beans.

Jay, if you want to try it out, the URL is http://www.chupaqueso.com/wp-admin/sidebar.php and you can bookmark it.

You mean the WYSIWYG editor? It’s better than nothing at all. Some of us like to see our formatting as we format. But I will admit it’s a little weak for links.

I’ll have to try the sidebar widget when I get home. It doesn’t seem to be working on school computers. I think it’s because I can’t log in to Chupaqueso.com :)

PS. Watch out for the expanding textbox bug in IE. You have to give it a specific width if you don’t want the box to start flying off the screen in IE the minute you start typing.

Actually, that’s a really nice theme. What is it? I may want to steal.

The current theme is “Howard’s Ensellitis.” The three-column layout with the sidebar toggles comes from Ensellitis. The color scheming, link layout, etc is all my work.

The XML is badly broken, according to the XHTML validators. W3C will NOT approve. Once I figure out how to actually write valid CSS I’ll fix it, and remove all my HTML 2.0 hacks. But note that only things that actually APPEAR broken in browsers will get attention any time soon.

Sorry for flooding you here. It’s mostly because I’m a Schlock fan and a WordPress enthusiast.

You might want to try this plugin. It allows readers (like m0 to know when somebody else has commented on a post after them. Keeps the conversation going.

hm…yes, I’ve used the sidebar widget in the past…not bad. and definitely better than the wysiwyg - maybe it’s because I’m used to using a flat text editor to mark up my html. since 90% of blog posts involve links, being “weak in the links area” is a deal-killer. turning that off and just using the standard area really helps.

for those of you who use linux and gnome (yeah, not usually a fan of gnome either, but whatever) there’s a nifty panel app that works like the firefox sidebar. just click the little button and you can post anytime.
